Apple to launch touch-screen netbook?

According to the Telegraph, Apple has placed orders for touch-screens which are larger than those currently used in the iPhone and iPod Touch. Speculation has centred on whether Apple plans to use these in a touch-based computer, similar to the popular netbook-style tiny laptops that have taken the PC world by storm, presumably without a physical keyboard.

Does this make sense? Certainly the huge market for netbooks proves there is a demand for small laptops of limited functionality, but most of these are very cheap, hardly a tempting target for Apple, which earns high margins on its products. Apple is also not one to follow trends, preferring to create them. But it’s not above reimagining products and so revolutionising them: the iPod was not the first MP3 player by any means.

So I wouldn’t say that Apple’s version of a netbook is out of the question: but I don’t have any idea of what it will be like. Not being Steve Jobs.
