iPhone ad banned by idiot UK ad authorities

The UK, crypto-authoritarian country that it is, has a body called the Advertising Standards Authority that has the power to ban “misleading” advertising. Now you may remember the iPhone TV ads about using the iPhone to surf the Internet – the real Internet, not the cut-down, specially-modified “mobile Internet” that other phones make you use.

Anyway, two people (a Mr NO Kia and a Ms Moto Rola) complained to the ASA about these ads, which they said were misleading because the iPhone doesn’t support Flash. I know! How stupid! Flash is a plug-in on desktop machines, it’s not part of the Internet! It’s just something dumb and lazy web designers use instead of creating real web pages.

Unfortunately the ASA are even more droolingly stupid. They agreed that the ads should not be re-shown in their present form, because they don’t make it clear that, although you can surf every web page on the Internet using your iPhone, those pages that use Flash will not look right. Oookaayyy. Maybe they should force PC manufacturers to make it clear that their products will not run Mac software.

Morons.
